Ohio State's recruiting class for 2027 is off to an incredible start, and the latest addition is a real game-changer. Meet Eli Johnson, a four-star safety from the class of 2027, who has just committed to the Buckeyes!
With a composite ranking of #114 overall and #10 among safeties, Johnson is a highly sought-after talent. Hailing from Cibolo, Texas, he joins the Buckeyes with a strong defensive background and an impressive skill set.
The Johnson File:
- Class: 2027
- Size: 6'3", 200 lbs
- Position: Safety
- High School: Cibolo Steele (Cibolo, TX)
- Composite Rating: Four-Star
- Composite Rank: #114 Overall, #10 Safety
Johnson made his commitment during an unofficial visit to Columbus, just hours before Ohio State's game against UCLA. While Oklahoma was a strong competitor, it was his connection with Buckeye safeties coach Matt Guerrieri that sealed the deal.
On the field, Johnson has already made his mark. In just six games this season with Cibolo Steele High School, he accumulated an impressive stat line: 20 tackles, half a tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and an interception. He's also a force on special teams, having blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown!
His instincts in zone coverage are exceptional, and he has a quick trigger when the ball is thrown his way. While he may need to add some bulk at the college level, his nose for the ball and impact potential make him an exciting prospect.
But here's where it gets interesting... Johnson is the third 2027 prospect to commit to Ohio State in November, joining four-star offensive tackle Kellen Wymer and three-star offensive lineman Mason Wilt. What's more, he's the sixth prospect overall to join the Buckeyes' junior class, a full 13 months before their early signing period!
